Norman Meni, Executive Director

Norman Meni has more than 15 years experience in the IT field and is an expert in the field of designing and testing operational procedures that support the introduction of new technology in high profile user groups. Norman was co-founder of a company that specialized in the enhancement of trading and business systems for financial services and insurance companies. Among many projects was the integration of vendor services for a new trading system for Kellogg Group, a NYSE Specialist firm. The company was charged with upgrading their current ETF mode of operations by building a robust calculator application designed to compute real-time prices. Business analysis, programming per client requirements, the testing of trading software and auditing trading algorithms for compliance with NYSE and SEC rules and regulations, policies and procedures including statistical analyses of transactional data were some of the company’s responsibilities.

At the NYSE’s Market Surveillance division, Norman led a team in the testing and analysis of the initial implementation of the Hybrid trading system which preceded the present electronic platform. He created data packages for member firm audits using data extraction software and developed custom technical and procedural documents for proprietary applications. Prior to entering the technology field, Norman was involved in a number of entrepreneurial endeavors. He owned and operated a successful chain of retail Factory Outlet stores throughout the United States. He introduced a new product to the US market where he was responsible for its entire lifecycle, from patent procurement, contracts, manufacturing, marketing, and finally to distribution and delivery.

Norman holds a degree in Economics from Queens College, NYC.

Joe Bai, Chief Technology Officer

Joe Bai has more than twenty-five years experience in information technology. Joe has served as the Chief Information Officer of The CarbonNeutral Company, FUN Technologies, and World Winner where he was responsible for all aspects of technology development and operations. He was responsible for North American operations as well as development and systems engineering services at City of London Telecommunications Group Plc. (COLT). Prior to COLT, Joe was the Chief Technology Officer at Adero where he built and managed network and systems in more that thirty counties and has extensive experience with multi-currency and multi-lingual web platforms. Joe held a number of key positions at Fidelity Investments including the Director of development for Fidelity.com, Vice President of network and systems Engineering for retail online trading, head of Internet firewall services, and lead network engineer.

Joe has his Ph.D. in Theoretical Nuclear Physics from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and a B.A. in Physics from the University of Florida. Recently Joe has earned his private pilot license and is working toward his instrument rating. Joe has spent the last twenty years architecting and developing some of the largest, most secure, responsive and reliable technology platforms in the world. He has a history of partnering closely with the business owners developing predictive models for application, systems, and network performance as well as revenue modeling, and real-time business intelligence.

Robert Boland, Chief Financial Officer

Robert Boland brings more than 17 years of experience planning, building and managing technology-based businesses to the VestaEdge team. Much of his experience has been in the financial services industry where he has worked to provide innovative trading systems and solutions for the business needs of institutional as well as retail customers, both in the United States and overseas. Before joining VestaEdge, Rob founded and operated Riverview Group, consulting to small and mid-sized technology companies. Prior to that, he was Chairman and CEO of 121Trade.com, Inc., a firm that developed advanced trading software for companies engaged in business-to-business electronic commerce. The majority of Rob’s experience comes from his twelve years with Fidelity Investments. In his most recent position there, he headed Risk Management for Fidelity’s Retail and Brokerage business lines and served as a member of the firm’s Global Risk Management and Oversight Committee. Prior to that he was CFO for Fidelity’s Retail Electronic Commerce unit that developed and operated the firm’s web site and online trading platforms. Rob helped build Fidelity Capital Markets from a $50M revenue division to a $350M business, first as CFO and later heading its Electronic Trading Group. Rob initially joined Fidelity as a manager in the firm’s Institutional Retirement Operations area. Prior to Fidelity, he spent two years as an analyst with Merrill Lynch & Company and began his career on Wall Street as an economic analyst with Safian Investment Research, Inc.

Rob holds an MBA in Finance and Business Policy and an AB in Economics from the University of Chicago. He continues to serve his alma mater in a variety of volunteer positions, including a seven year term on the Alumni Board of Governors. He also continues to serve his community as a Commissioner and Treasurer of the Dover-Sherborn Youth Baseball and Softball Association.

Bruce Ferland, Executive Chairman & CEO

Bruce Ferland has over thirty years of management, investment, technology and international operating experience with small to large-scale companies including SymBioSys, iSoftStone, DarwinSuzsoft, Marsh & McLennan, Fidelity Investments, American Express and Electronic Data Systems. Mr. Ferland is the Founder of SymBioSys, Inc., a global consulting firm with services that include doing business in China, establishing new global business beach heads, creating captive business operations, inbound (FDI) and outbound investments (ODI), global M & A and strategic sourcing in China. As President of iSoftStone, Inc., Chinese IT services company, he managed North American and European operations. Bruce managed and led DarwinSuzsoft/Dextrys, a US and Chinese IT services company. Mr. Ferland joined Marsh & McLennan Capital/Stone Point Capital as a Principal in the private equity business, the CEO of a “start-up” Internet portal company and Chairman of a “start-up” Internet banking company.

Bruce held various executive positions with Fidelity Investments including the Executive Vice President responsible for Fidelity.com and Electronic Commerce, Senior Vice President and CIO of the Retail Group, Senior Vice President of Global Applications Development and Senior Vice President and CIO of Fidelity Investments Operations Group. Prior to Fidelity Investments, Mr. Ferland held executive positions within various American Express subsidiaries including the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of First Data Corporation/The Shareholder Services Group, Senior Vice President & Chief Applications Officer for The Boston Company and Vice President of International Fiduciary Systems for The Boston Company and Shearson Lehman Brothers. Bruce started out his career with Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and was a Senior Systems Engineer and Project Leader focused on building health care applications in the Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross and Blue Shield business lines (The Blues Division).

Mr. Ferland holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of Maine, Orono with a Computer Science minor. He served on company boards and was an advisory board member for external early stage companies.

Jonathan Coopersmith, President

Jonathan Coopersmith has over 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur, business owner, manager, network engineer, software programmer, technology writer and consultant. Jonathan was co-founder and VP of Research & Development of Lyrrus, Inc., developing new technologies to teach and compose music for the guitar as well as hardware interfaces and software packages for professional, educational and consumer use. Jonathan was responsible for managing intellectual property, specifically patents, trademarks and copyrights; overseeing technical support, and incorporating user and beta-test feedback into the final product; and coordinating overseas product production.

Jonathan has been involved in numerous start-ups and small companies with a wide range of programming and management experience: He was a cofounder of TDG Enterprises, a technology consulting company specializing in network solutions and custom software for private and professional clients; Personnel Manager for The Philadelphia Singers, the Resident Chorus of The Philadelphia Orchestra, managing a roster of over 250 musicians, designing and programming custom databases for payroll, personnel, and patrons; Product Manager for Synygy, Inc., designing and implementing a full product rollout of customized Excel applications to be used by over 5000 pharmaceutical sales reps and managers across the country; and Product Manager at Helios Health, Inc, managing a programming team tasked with designing, writing, and maintaining the company’s custom software.

Jonathan holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, with concentrated studies in computer programming, algorithm design, artificial intelligence, and operating systems.

Lew Coopersmith, Founder

Lew Coopersmith is an Associate Professor of Management Sciences at Rider University where he lectures on statistics, forecasting and operations management. Since 1969 he has held management positions with the FDA, Johnson & Johnson and Health Products Research, Inc., which he help found in 1973. In his business and consulting experience, Lew has provided a wide range of services in forecasting, market analysis, marketing policy evaluation and financial analysis. Strategic marketing, forecasting and analytical models have been developed for finance companies, health and beauty aids companies, and the medical community. Past clients include Cowen & Co, Johnson & Johnson, Bausch & Lomb, Sanofi-Aventis, Allergan, Bristol Myers Squibb. Recent research and consulting interests have focused on optimization models that provide decision support for retirement planning and managing pharmaceutical research projects.

Lew has a Ph.D. in Operations Research from N.Y.U.
